THE K.J. BATHE AWARD 2010

The K.J. Bathe Award is for the Best Paper by a Young Researcher in the Field of Computational Engineering published in the International Journal Computers & Structures during 2008-2009.

Computers & Structures is pleased to announce that the Second K.J. Bathe Award will be made in 2010. This award is named to recognize the outstanding contributions made by Professor K.J. Bathe over many years to the field of computational engineering. This Award is made every two years during the time of the World Congresses. The 2010 Award will be given to an author of the best paper published in Computers & Structures in the years 2008 and 2009. The K.J. Bathe Award includes a certificate and 2,000 euros donated by the publishers of Computers & Structures, Elsevier Ltd. The author should be under the age of 40 on 1 January 2010.

Full sponsorship will be available to enable the winner to attend the World Congress on Computational Mechanics to be held in Australia during 2010. The winner will have the opportunity to meet Professor K.J. Bathe and members of the Editorial Board of Computers & Structures during the World Congress.

An international panel chaired by Prof. Barry H.V. Topping will select the winner. The panel's decision is final.

Applicants who wish to be considered for this award should send an email to Professor Topping using the email address (batheaward AT bhvt.org.uk). The application email should use "Bathe Award 2010 Application" as the subject of the email and answer the following questions in the numbered order given below:

  1. Give your full name
  2. Date of Birth
  3. Full Postal Address: Tel and Fax number including international codes.
  4. Full reference for the paper that you are applying for (Format: Author names, "paper title", Computers & Structures, vol x, n x, pages xx-xx, year.
  5. A statement 100-120 words making clear why your paper is of such merit that it should be given the Bathe Award. (Do not repeat the abstract of your paper). This is your opportunity to make a special case for this prestigious award - please take the opportunity to make your claim carefully.
  6. Attach to the email a scan of your passport or ID card to confirm your date of birth.

Applications may be made as soon as the applicant's paper has been published in Computers & Structures. Please note applications may not be made for an accepted proof. Only when a paper has been published (printed) and assigned volume and page numbers may an application be made. The final date for the receipt of applications is 15th December 2009. All applications will be acknowledged by email.
